This is a fun book to make. The lightweight covers are still sturdy enough to feel good in the hand. This structure also opens very flat which is a nice book for sketching or writing.
I played around with two Keith A Smith single signature sewing patterns - the first one - the Bow Tie - Running Stitch with Pearl and the second one - the Alternating Loop (his sewing for Hedi Kyle). The alternating loop is a two needle, two colour sewing.
For this book, I just planned to include three signatures, so it was a simple process to just repeat the sewing three times. For the book with drawing paper I did a 3-folio signatures and for the book with writing paper, I did 4-folio signatures.
For one of the books, I made a little recipe book from an MS Word template because it's sometimes I like to make a book with content.
I will be teaching this structure at the Georgian Bay Centre for the Arts on Feb 23 - can't wait to see what the students come up for paper, thread and book cloth combination!
